Stop Urban Flooding in Sarasota County

The Sarasota County Board of Supervisors (BCC) held a well attended workshop on January 21st to explore the causes of the Hurricane Debby flooding that impacted the Philippe Creek watershed. Recall that the storm did much damage to to the Bee Ridge neighborhood, specifically to our friends in the Laurel Meadows community.

Our colleague Alexandra Coe who has experienced more than her fair share of flooding and ran in the primary for a seat on the County Commission last year to represent District 1 is organizing a community meeting for our residents. The purpose is to review the findings of that workshop, solicit input from our residents who could not attend the workshop and formulate plans to engage the BCC at future hearings and workshops aimed at agreeing on effective and implementable solutions. The link to the workshop on 1/21 is provided below for those who could not attend and would like to hear the presentations and discussion.

With apologies for the short notice, the community meeting will take place at the Fruitville Library meeting room on Apex Road from 5-7 pm this Monday, January 27th. Please join us if you can so that we can work with the County on long term solutions to a problem that threatens our neighborhood and figure out what can be done in advance of this years storm season so that we are better prepared.
